marauder minute

August 24 - August 28

Week 3

Welcome to Mt. Vernon Intermediate

Dear Students and Families,

It’s hard to believe we are already a few weeks into the school year! Our students are settling into their routines, getting to know their teachers and classmates, and continuing to learn what it means to be a Marauder. We are proud to see so many students putting our CHARGE values into action each day: Choose Respect, Honor Integrity, Actively Focus, Re-Do, Give Effort, and Embrace Challenges. We love seeing students live out these values in their classrooms, hallways, and throughout our school!

Parents, please take some time to ask your student about their CHARGE Card and the choices they are making at school. It’s a great way to celebrate the positives and successes, but it can also be a great opportunity to talk about areas where they may have received a negative and how they can make a different choice or improve next time. These conversations help reinforce the CHARGE values at home and school and encourage students to take ownership of their choices.

Sincerely,
Ms. Ashley Gustin
Principal

Dear Students and Families,

Student leaders will have opportunities to:
  • Give daily announcements
  • Welcome new students and assist with school tours
  • Help with special events and programs
  • Serve as positive role models in the building
  • Support a welcoming and respectful school culture
All applications are due by Monday, August 31st.
Please do not wait until the last minute to apply.
Application Process (Step-by-Step)
To be considered for the Student Leadership Team, students must complete both steps below:
  1. Submit the Student Leadership Application
  2. Ask a teacher to complete a Leadership Endorsement Form on their behalf
Asking a teacher to complete the endorsement form is an important part of the process. It shows that students can communicate respectfully with adults and advocate for themselves.
Students may ask any core teacher who knows them well.

  • Interviews will take place in Ms. Shepherd’s office on Thursday, September 10th during lunch
  • Students will attend with other applicants from their lunch period
  • This allows students to demonstrate communication skills, confidence, and leadership potential
Please see the following page for details on the interview/speech process.
Our first Leadership Team meeting will be held on:
Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:30 AM
After that, meetings will take place once or twice a month on Tuesdays at 7:30 AM. Meeting Schedule: Sept 22nd, Oct 6th, Oct 20th, Nov 3rd, Nov 10th, Nov 24th, Jan 19th, Feb 2nd, Feb 9th, March 2nd, March 30th, April 20th, and May 4th.
If you have questions about student ambassadors or the application process, students are encouraged to see Ms. Shepherd or Mrs. Turpin.

Dismissal Reminder

For the safety of our students, we would like to remind families that we do not allow walk-up dismissal at the end of the school day. If you need to pick your student up early, the latest time to pick them up is 3:00 PM. After that time, students will need to be picked up through our car rider line.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and orderly dismissal process for all students.
