Welcome Back

Welcome to Mt. Vernon Intermediate

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to another exciting year at Mt. Vernon Intermediate School!

We are excited to welcome back our returning 6th grade families, greet our incoming 5th graders, and extend a special welcome to all of the new families joining the MVIS community this year. We hope you have had a wonderful summer, and we can't wait to begin another great year together.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Back-to-School Night, where students can meet their teachers, pick up schedules, find their classrooms, and get ready for a successful start to the school year.

The first day of school is Thursday, August 6, and we can't wait to kick off another great year at MVIS! We look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, new friendships, and memorable experiences.

Body Safety Talks

Our school will be partnering with the Monique Burr Foundation to implement their comprehensive, research- based prevention program called MBF Child/Teen Safety Matters®. Students will participate in fun, engaging, and age and developmentally appropriate classroom lessons that educate and empower them to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to child abuse and digital dangers. A trained facilitator from Zoey's Place Child Advocacy Center will be implementing the program in classrooms on August 18th, 20th, and 25th. Parents will receive information and materials as students participate in the lessons. To learn more about the program, visit www.mbfpreventioneducation.org. Weekend Food Bag Assistance

Backpack Bites is a program where students are able to receive weekly food bags each Friday if parents feel that extra food support would be helpful during the weekend. Please complete the form if you feel this would be helpful for your family. Please know we are only able to accept the first 20 that are completed. If you have more than one student at MVIS, please fill out a form for each of your students. FILLING OUT THIS FORM MEANS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SIGNING UP FOR THE BACKPACK BITES PROGRAM.

Back to School Night Tasks

Start in the GYM to:

Pick up CLASS SCHEDULES and CONSUMABLE FEES

Sign up for Free/Reduced Lunch
Sign up for Car Rider Tag

Visit Nurse in Nurse's office to:

Drop off medication forms and medication
Speak to the Nurse about health concerns

Walk Student Schedule

Visit homeroom to drop off school supplies and meet your teacher.
Drop check off in homeroom for consumable fees.
Find ALL student classes
6th graders - Find locker and practice opening it.

Consumable Fees - Pay at Back to School Night

You can pay your student's consumable fees at back to school night with cash in the gym or by check in their homerooms.

Consumable fees cover materials students use during coursework, such as clay, paint, sheet music, science lab supplies, PLTW project materials, and other hands-on classroom resources, but do not include textbooks. These materials are used directly by students and cannot be reused from year to year. The consumable fee for each course is posted under the “Parents” tab on each school’s website and can be paid through e-funds. - MVIS 2026 - 2027 Consumable Fees

School Meals: Payments and Assistance

e-Funds

e-Funds is the current system being used for lunch accounts. You may transfer money into your child's account, load funds, and set alerts using this online system. For more information about how to set up an account, please go to our e-Funds webpage.

Free/Reduced Lunches

Any family wishing to apply for meal assistance may do so by logging into Skyward Family Access, opening the Food Service tab and clicking on Applications. Applications must be filled out every year after July 1st. Students eligible for free or reduced lunch assistance may qualify for textbook/device rental fee assistance; also watch for textbook rental assistance option in the online application.

MVIS Car Rider Procedures

To help ensure a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal, please review the following car rider procedures.

Morning Drop-Off

The drop-off line opens at 7:30 AM. Students may enter the building beginning at 8:15 AM.
Enter campus from 200 W.
Vehicles will fill the East Lot first. Once the East Lot is full (or at 8:14 AM), additional vehicles should proceed to the North Lot.
In the East Lot, vehicles should line up in five columns. Students should remain in their vehicles until staff releases them to enter the building.
In the North Lot, vehicles will remain in a single-file line around the perimeter. Students will exit at the curb once the East Lot has cleared.
Please remain in your vehicle at all times and follow the established traffic pattern.

Afternoon Pick-Up

The pick-up line opens at 2:45 PM. Car rider dismissal begins at 3:25 PM.
All new car rider families must register for a car rider tag at Back-to-School Night or in the front office.
Enter campus from 200 W and proceed to the North Lot, where vehicles will line up two-wide around the perimeter.
Staff will identify car rider tag numbers and direct vehicles to merge into a single-file line in the East Lot.
Students will enter vehicles from the curbside only.
After your student has safely entered your vehicle, continue following the traffic pattern and exit as directed.

Families with Students at Multiple Schools

Families who have students attending more than one Mt. Vernon school should use the MVHS car rider area for both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

Morning Drop-Off

Follow the MVHS morning car rider procedures.
MVIS students will walk north to the Intermediate School.
MVHS students will enter the high school.
MVMS students will board a shuttle bus that transports them to the middle school.

Afternoon Pick-Up

Follow the MVHS afternoon car rider procedures.
MVIS and MVHS students will be dismissed at 3:30 PM.
If you are also picking up an MVMS student, you will need to drive to the MVMS West Lot after leaving the high school campus. MVMS students are dismissed at 3:50 PM. - Email Jeff Brandes, MVMS Assistant Principal, to get on the list. You must be on the list to enter the parking lot. Jeff.brandes@mtvernonschools.org

Transportation

To receive bus transportation for returning in-district students, select "Yes" on the Bus Rider Information Form during your student's Registration in Skyward Family Access.

To confirm you selected "Yes" for bus transportation, log in to your Skyward Family Access account, open each child's registration, and review Step 7, which is the Bus Rider Information Form. If any changes need to be made, please contact the Transportation Department at transportation@mtvernonschools.org.
