Welcome to Mt. Vernon Intermediate

Dear Students and Families,

As we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to recognize and celebrate our teachers and staff. Your kind notes, thoughtful gestures, and support helped make it a truly special week. Our team works hard every day to support our students, and it meant a great deal to feel that appreciation from our school community.

Looking ahead, next week brings another round of important assessments with NWEA testing. Please help your child be prepared by ensuring they get plenty of rest each night and start their day with a healthy breakfast. Encouragement from home can also make a big difference—remind your child to take their time, do their best, and approach each day with confidence.

MVIS Updates & Information

Dismissal Reminder

For the safety of our students, we would like to remind families that we do not allow walk-up dismissal at the end of the school day. If you need to pick your student up early, the latest time to pick them up is 3:10 PM. After that time, students will need to be picked up through our car rider line.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and orderly dismissal process for all students.
 

Morning Drop-off Procedures

This is a reminder about our morning drop-off procedures. All doors will be locked at 8:33 AM each day. This allows enough time for students to get to their classes without being marked absent.

If you arrive after 8:33 AM, please drop your student off at Door #1, where staff will assist them in entering the building safely.
 

Lunch Balances - Please Read

Please take a moment to check your child’s meal balance. To avoid any interruptions in meal service, follow the directions below to view your child’s balance and add funds to their account if needed. Thank you for your attention to this important reminder!
  • Log into Skyward as a parent
  • Click “Food Service” on the left
  • Click “Make a payment” in blue
  • Click “Fund lunch” 
  • Continue as a guest or log in/create an account
  • Fill out the information on the screen, including your student’s ID number
  • Add your student and continue on to fund lunch

Peer Tutoring and Study Skills

Peer Tutoring and Study Skills
MVIS will be offering 4 sessions of Peer Tutoring and Study Skills. These sessions will take place in the MVIS library on Thursdays at 7:30 AM.

Sessions 2-4 Peer Tutoring (Middle and High School National Honor Society Tutors)
Session 3: Jan 15th - Feb 26th
Session 4: April 2nd - April 30th

Attendance Procedures & Reminders

If your student will be absent, please notify the school by 10:00 AM using one of the following methods:
Important Notes:
  • Absence documentation must be submitted within 3 days of the absence.
  • If the student is sick for 3 or more days, a doctor’s note is required for the absence to be excused.
  • For any doctor, dental, or other appointments, a provider’s excuse note is needed for the time missed to be excused.

Picking Students up Early
If your student needs to be picked up early, please notify the school ahead of time to ensure a smooth process:
Please include the following in your message:
  • Student’s name
  • Name of the person picking student up
  • Time of pickup
