Week 21

Welcome to Mt. Vernon Intermediate

Dear Students and Families,

We’re excited to share that a new student leadership opportunity will be launching soon, giving students a chance to grow their voice, responsibility, and impact within our school community. See below for more information!

We also want to congratulate our students on their great effort and focus during ILEARN Checkpoint 2 testing—they showed perseverance and did an excellent job representing MVIS. Throughout the process, students demonstrated key CHARGE attributes, including Actively Focusing, Giving Effort, and Honor/Integrity by doing their personal best and supporting one another.

We’re proud of the way our Marauders continue to rise to the challenge and lead by example!

Sincerely,
Ms. Ashley Gustin
Principal

PREPARING FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING (IF A 4TH CANCELLATION IS NEEDED)

As shared previously, Indiana Code allows schools to use up to three days of asynchronous eLearning per school year. If a fourth weather-related cancellation is needed—as we anticipate the potential for challenging weather next week—Indiana Code requires instruction to be synchronous or the missed day(s) to be made up by adding instructional days to the calendar. Please see details on www.mvcsc.k12.in.us/virtual.

Student Leadership Team

We are excited to introduce our Student Leadership Team. This group of students will help lead our school by welcoming new students, giving tours, helping with daily announcements, and representing our school at special events like assemblies and Veterans Day.
If your student is interested in being a positive role model, working with adults, and helping make our school a great place for everyone, we encourage them to apply.
Applications will close on Thursday, January 29th. Learn more here. Contact Ms. Shepherd with questions.

Bullying Awareness: How We Support Student Safety at MVIS

At MVIS, we take bullying seriously and are committed to keeping students safe. Bullying is repeated, intentional behavior that involves a power imbalance and is meant to harm, intimidate, or exclude others. If your child experiences or witnesses bullying, please let us know as soon as possible. We can only act on concerns that are reported, and timely communication helps us respond effectively. We also encourage families to talk with their students about speaking up, treating others with respect, and reaching out to a trusted adult when something doesn’t feel right.

A Note from the Nurse

Important Health Reminder for Field Trips
If your student has a severe allergy, asthma, or a seizure disorder, a current action plan is required on file before they can participate in any school field trips. A new action plan is required every school year. If you have not already submitted this paperwork, please do so as soon as possible to avoid any delays in your child’s participation. The required forms can be found on the school website here. Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and prepared.
