Week 6

Welcome to Mt. Vernon Intermediate

Dear Students and Families,

We’re off to a strong start at MVIS and have some important updates to share. Picture Day is Tuesday, September 10th, and we look forward to seeing all those smiles! Please remember on Tuesday, September 17th is Parent Teacher Connection Day. There is NO SCHOOL. Please be sure to check ParentSquare for Parent Teacher Connection Day sign-ups from your student's teachers.

This week, our CHARGE focus is on the R – REDO. At MVIS, we believe in giving students the chance to redo both academic work and behaviors because learning takes practice. Redos on assignments allow students to strengthen their understanding and show growth, while redos in behavior help students reflect, reset, and make better choices. We value the power of second chances as a way to build confidence, responsibility, and perseverance in all our learners.

Let's Go, Marauders!

Sincerely,
Ms. Ashley Gustin
Principal

Spot the Difference

Mr. Sanchez, Mrs. Merica and Miss Haflich's students are broken up into groups. These groups are a mixture of the different classes allowing students to work with new people they might not know. On a central table, there will be a bunch of random things. Groups will get a few moments to look at the table with their group and table a mental note of what is there. After that allotted time, students face away and close their eyes. One of the items from the table is taken and hidden in a bag/container. Students will then get to brainstorm and work with their group to make a guess on what item was taken. A team that gets the right answer scores a point. If a group has no guess or their guess is incorrect, no points are given. The team with the most points at the end, wins. (if we get near the end and multiple teams are tied, we take multiple items away). This activity focuses on teamwork, working in a group setting, cooperation, communicating, etc

Stand Up for Each Other

Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Randolf's students played a game to see how many of their peers were feeling the same way they were. What an excellent idea to share anonymously and see that you're not the only student that feels the same way.

Mrs. Sell and Mrs. Smig's Class

Students conducted interviews to get to know each other. By the looks of those grins, I think friends were made.

Mental Health Event

We are 2 weeks out from this amazing free event that will bring awareness and education to our communities about mental health. I would like to invite you to take some time out of your day to come listen to our phenomenal keynote speaker, Amy Abell with HopeAlight, as well as our brave adult and youth panelists who will allow us to look through their lens of lived experience. We will learn some of the ways mental health can look and how it impacts our lives, but mostly importantly, how we can support each other through difficult times and change the way we see the lens of mental health. This event is open to the public. Register today! https://hancockhealth.in/Lived-Experiences
