Social-Emotional Learning

Social-Emotional Learning

At MVIS, we focus on the whole child by implementing a social-emotional learning curriculum and character education. We do this on Wednesdays. Each Wednesday, students work on a lesson that promotes self-awareness, social-awareness, mindset skills, relationship skills, character skills, and career exploration.

MVIS uses lessons from The Mind Trek SEL ProgramSecond Step, and TBRI.

Golden Tickets

Students exemplifying hard work and good character have the opportunity to earn a Golden Ticket. Tickets can be used to give students extra responsibilities, such as the ability to walk to lunch a minute early before their class, and other special privileges.

House System

Students at MVIS belong to a house. The house system is designed to connect students and staff across the building while enforcing building-wide expectations. Each month, students will have a house meeting with all of the classes in their house across the building. During these meetings, students will go over building wide expectations, discover the challenges and incentives for that quarter, and participate in activities that strengthen student relationships. Each quarter, students will also have an opportunity to do an activity with a buddy classroom.

Houses will earn points throughout the quarter based on hard work, character, and building wide expectations. Throughout the quarter, houses can earn incentives based on their points, such as a dress-up day, extra recess, popcorn, a party, etc.
